E- Liquid, what’s in it?

E-liquid is a special type of liquid which is used to produce the vapour in Electronic cigarettes.
The e-liquid is fed to the atomizer from the tank or cartridge, vaporised by the atomizer and the end result is the vapour produced.  It comprises propylene glycol (PG) and/or vegetable gycerin (VG) base.  Flavouring substances are added variably depending on the e-liquid flavour chosen.  Nicotine in various amount can also be present (or totally absent) depending again on the e-liquid variant. Based on the type of base used, e-liquids are known as PG liquid or VG liquid or pg/vg mix. Sometimes both the liquids are used in different proportions to acquire desired consistencies.


Thus e-liquid is comprised mainly of two components:

• Flavouring:
E-liquid naturally lacks the natural tobacco flavours you are so used to.  Thus to compensate this, the manufacturers use flavouring substances to generate a variety of flavours, tobacco’s, mints, fruits, chocolate, you name it!

• Diluents:
The two common bases, PG and VG are the ones used as diluents. They are not only required to dilute the amount of flavour and nicotine (if present) but also to serve as ‘the base’, that is, it is the part of the solution that is actually vaporized carrying along with it, the nicotine and the flavour.

• There may also be nicotine present in some e-liquid or totally absent.  The amount of each constituent decides the thickness and flavour of the e-liquid and the throat
hit of the vapour produced from it.
